Fishing Report – July 29

Fishing has been a little tough, you really need to work for them. If the wind is blowing you can catch them shallow, if it isn’t try pulling lead core or rigging in the deeper water. The evening bite has been fairly solid in the shallow water.

The smallmouth bite has been good – one group reported catching about 30 throughout the day. Use anything with orange, pink or chartreuse, bobber fishing in shallow water.

Fishing Report – July 18

Sorry about the delay on the fishing report! There were a couple of hangups this past week.

Keep in mind the slot is still under 18″ with the state shutdown. You can buy fishing licenses at stores now.

As far as the fishing bite goes, people have been catching 15-25 fish in an evening, a fair number of keepers. Daytime fishing has been tougher on the south end, you find pockets of fish and then they seem to vanish.

The best bite has been on the north half of the lake pulling spinners or lead core. You will catch bigger fish though, not as many keepers unless you go farther north on the mud. If you are trolling leadcore, use river rocker and shadlings in anything that looks like a tulibee or shiner.

Perch colored bait is working as well but that seems to be the case if you are fishing lower in the water column, a few feet off the bottom.

For spinners, the same colors apply. If you fish off the bottom, tulibee or shiner.

Jig colors – orange / brown, chartreuse and orange, black and green should be firing any day.

Fishing Report – July 7, 2011

Here is Mike’s report on Fishing, or Catching rather, as it’s been the last few days.

We are mainly fishing the main lake gravel humps. The crayfish are molting still so any 1/32 oz with some orange on it is popular.  Orange and brown and orange and chartreuse are the best colors by far. Depths we are fishing are 22′-26′ of water on the southern half of the lake. While spinners and lead core are working for many fisherman, we are primarily slip bobbering on this end of the lake.

The last couple days, limits came fairly easy…nice 16″-18″ fish. Many big fish as well.

If you are fishing the mud, the same techniques have been working – fish the top edges in 23′ – 27′. Orange is still a good color on the north end, but chartreuse was a better color. Not a lot of keepers up there but lots of big fish.

There have been reports of people struggling a little bit but the last couple days of guide trips produced a little more than 40 fish a day and a limit of keepers.

Fishing Report – Monday, June 27, 2011

Overall the bite has been good. Not the best it has been but still good. The recent bug hatch slowed things down a little. Guide boats are averaging 25-30 walleyes in an 8 hour day. The fish are moving deep – fish the deep transitions anywhere from 28-36′.

The last few days, many of the boats are mainly pulling spinners. Anything with silver hue to match shiners and those that look like perch always do well.

The Evening bite is still decent and again the average guide boats are catching 25-30 in a night. Fish are deeper unless there is a wind in which case you will find them a bit shallower in 10-14.’

This summer our dock fishing has been great – 10-15 a night on average. It has finally slowed down and we are only seeing one or two a night.

There are plenty of boats fishing the mud and they are doing well out there rigging or using spinners.

The colors to use on the 1/32 oz Lindy jigs are orange, orange and chartreuse, black and green, green, depending on weather. If it’s cloudy use darker colors, brighter colors if not.

Fishing Report – Sunday, June 19th

The Walleye Bite has been fantastic! Guide boats are averaging 35-40 fish in an 8 hour trip. 4 hour trips are averaging 25-30 fish. During the evening the boats are fishing shallow. During the day, the depths vary but anglers should concentrate more on the mid-range rocks in 22’-24’. There have been a lot of crayfish in the bellies of those fish so use jig colors with oranges, pink and greens or combinations of those colors. We use a the 1/32 oz Lindy Jigs.

The Spinner bite in the deeper transitions on the mud at 28′ – 32’ has been good as well as the small mouth bite. Overall, it’s been a “darn good bite.”

Be sure to catch Mike’s full audio fishing report at Lindy Fishing Tackle. When you are at the site, look for the Audio Report Link at the top, scoll to Minnesota and find Mike a few guides down.

Latest Fishing Report – Isle Bay

This past week, Mike has taken out about a dozen trips – many of his days have consisted of an 8 AM to 4 PM trip followed by a 5 – 9 PM. He had 4 days in a row of that. On Father’s Day, he slept. The bad news for Mike is that his schedule is busy. The good news for his clients is that fishing has been pretty good this year and seems to be staying pretty consistent. Weather has played a roll in slowing down the bite on some days but overall, most groups got their limit.

The Krafts

We have also seen a lot of over 28″ walleye this year. Of his guide trips this year, he’s had more big fish than the past few years combined.

One Big Walleye

Visit us at Hunter Winfields to check cabin availability – if you book an all day guide trip, your stay is free on a mid-week.
